"When that alarm rings, the clock starts. Depending on the situation, many lives could be on the line, therefore time is precious. It is the firefighter's job to stay ready because every second counts! Once the firefighter arrives at the scene, he or she may be called upon to climb a ladder, rush into a burning building and/or carry someone of like size to safety. Some fights are short, some last all night or longer, but all are intense."
